Your Maui public adjuster

Island Claims is a licensed Hawaiʻi public adjusting firm headquartered on Maui. A public adjuster works for you, the property owner, not the insurance company. Joshua Reeder, License #553921, reads your policy, documents the damage and explains your options in plain English.

What we handle

Maui property claims, from first photos to final paperwork

One public adjuster to keep the claim organized, so you can focus on your family, your home and your business.

Wildfire and smoke

Structure loss, smoke and ash intrusion, and the paperwork that follows. We document what a quick walkthrough can miss.

First 72 hours after damage

Hurricane, wind and storm

Roof, lanai and wind-driven rain damage, plus percentage hurricane deductibles that surprise many owners.

Hurricane deductibles in Hawaiʻi

Flood and Kona Low storms

Wind, rain and flood can fall under different coverage. How the water got in matters.

Kona Low storm claims

Water damage and mold

Hidden moisture and fast-growing mold in Hawaiʻi’s climate, including claims that were paid too little.

Water damage claims

Denied or underpaid claims

A denial or a low first payment is often a starting point, not the end of the claim.

If your claim was denied

Condos, HOAs, rentals and commercial

Association, vacation rental and business property claims have their own rules and moving parts.

Why local matters

We live here. We know what rebuilding on Maui takes.

Mainland estimating tools do not price barge shipping, island permit timelines, or the limited number of available contractors. Insurers are expected to pay for the real cost of repair in your location, so your estimate should reflect it, line by line.

Where we help

Maui claims by region

West Maui

Lāhainā, Kāʻanapali, Nāpili, Kapalua

Wildfire recovery, wind, and coastal and resort property. Joshua has worked claims here for years, including after the August 2023 fires.

South Maui

Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Māʻalaea

Condos, vacation rentals and single-family homes near the coast. The March 2026 Kona Low storm collapsed part of South Kīhei Road, a reminder that flooding is a real risk here.

Central Maui

Kahului, Wailuku, Waiheʻe

Homes, apartments and small businesses, where wind, water and roof claims are common.

North Shore

Pāʻia, Spreckelsville, Haʻikū

Wind and heavy-rain exposure, older homes, and properties where small leaks turn into larger water claims.

Upcountry

Makawao, Pukalani, Kula

Wildfire and wind claims on larger parcels and mixed-use property. Joshua has handled fire claims in these communities.

East Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi

Hāna, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi

Remote properties where reaching an insurer and a contractor is slower. We work by phone and video, and we tell you if an in-person visit would help.

Common questions

Maui claim FAQs

Yes. Island Claims is headquartered on Maui, and Joshua Reeder, License #553921, lives and works here. Reviews are by phone or video, and we serve every part of Maui County from West Maui to Upcountry to Hana.
A public adjuster works for you, the policyholder, not the insurance company. We read your policy, document the damage, prepare your claim and talk with your insurer for you. Your insurer’s adjuster works for the insurer.
The claim review is complimentary. If we decide to work together, we explain in writing how we are paid before you sign anything. You are never asked to pay to find out where your claim stands.
All of Maui County: West Maui (Lāhainā, Kāʻanapali, Nāpili, Kapalua), South Maui (Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Māʻalaea), Central Maui (Kahului, Wailuku, Waiheʻe), the North Shore (Pāʻia, Haʻikū), Upcountry (Makawao, Pukalani, Kula), Hāna, plus Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.
Yes. Joshua Reeder has helped Maui property owners with claims before and after the August 2023 Maui wildfires, in Lāhainā and in Upcountry areas such as Kula, Makawao and Pukalani. Every claim is different, and we cannot promise a result or a payment amount.
Many denied and underpaid claims can still be reviewed. Bring the denial or payment letter, your policy and your photos to a complimentary review, and we will explain what we see and what to document next.
Wildfire and smoke, hurricane and wind, flood and Kona Low storm damage, water damage, roof damage, mold, theft and vandalism, and business interruption, for homes, condos, vacation rentals and commercial property across Maui County.
Not always. If the damage is small and your insurer’s estimate covers it, you may be fine on your own. A review is a low-pressure way to check, and we will tell you if we think you do not need us.
A public adjuster handles the insurance claim itself: the policy, the damage and the paperwork. An attorney gives legal advice and can take legal action. Island Claims is not a law firm. If your claim may need legal action, a licensed Hawaiʻi attorney is the right person to ask.
Yes. We help individual condo owners, association boards, vacation rental owners and small commercial owners. See our commercial and condo claims page for how those claims differ.
