Your Upcountry Maui public adjuster

Island Claims is a Maui-based, licensed public adjusting firm helping Upcountry and North Shore homeowners, farms and businesses with wind, fire, water and rural property claims. A public adjuster works for you, not the insurance company. We read your policy, document the damage and explain your options in plain English.

What we handle

Upcountry claims we help with

Wind & hurricane claim help

Fire and smoke

Wildfire and structure fires, including smoke damage and claims still open since 2023.

Fire & smoke claim help

Rain, leaks and mold

Haʻikū and the North Shore see heavy rain, and hidden moisture turns to mold fast.

When is mold covered?

Farms and outbuildings

Barns, sheds, equipment, fencing and water catchment are often separate items on the claim.

The first 72 hours after damage

Landslide and runoff

Heavy rain on steep lots can bring runoff, mudflow and earth movement.

Landslide & mudflow coverage

Denied or underpaid claims

A denial or a low first payment is often a starting point.

Why it matters

Rural property needs a claim that covers all of it

Upcountry property is often more than a house: water tanks and catchment, ag buildings, fencing, solar, long driveways and landscaping. Each can fall under a different part of your policy, with its own limits.

Upcountry also knows fire. The August 2023 Kula fire destroyed homes here. Whether your claim is about fire, wind or water, we document the whole property and check every coverage that may apply.

Common questions

Upcountry Maui FAQs

Yes. Island Claims is based on Maui and helps owners across Upcountry and the North Shore. We start with a complimentary review by phone or video, and schedule an on-site inspection when your claim needs one.
Often under “other structures” coverage, with its own limit, and some items may be excluded or limited. Check your declarations page and list every damaged structure separately.
Many homeowners policies exclude earth movement, and flood policies treat mudflow differently from landslide. The cause and how the damage happened matter, so document it carefully and ask for any denial in writing.
Yes. Smoke and ash damage can be a covered loss. We help document residue, odor and cleaning needs and check what your policy provides.
A public adjuster works for you, the policyholder, not the insurance company. We read your policy, document the damage, prepare the claim and handle the back-and-forth with your insurer. Your insurer’s adjuster works for the insurer.
You tell us what happened and send whatever you have: photos, your policy, letters or estimates from the insurer. We explain what we see, what may be missing and what to document next. If we can help, we explain in writing how we are paid before you sign anything. If you do not need us, we say so.
