Water damage and mold claim help in Hawaiʻi

Water damage is one of the most common property claims in Hawaiʻi, and one of the most often underpaid. Single-wall construction, humidity and salt air mean water spreads farther and mold grows faster than many estimates allow. Island Claims is a licensed Hawaiʻi public adjusting firm that works for you, not the insurance company.

What we handle

Water claims, from the first leak to the final repair

We find where the water went, document what it touched and make sure the estimate covers the whole repair.

Burst pipes and plumbing leaks

Supply lines, water heaters, toilets and hidden leaks inside walls. Sudden leaks are treated differently from slow ones.

Why water claims get underpaid

Roof leaks and storm water

Rain through storm-damaged roofs, windows and vents. How the water got in decides which policy may pay.

Condo leaks between units

Water from the unit above or the building’s pipes raises the HO-6 vs. AOAO master policy question.

Mold after a covered leak

Mold tied to a covered water loss may be covered, often with limits. Documentation makes the difference.

When is mold covered?

AC and appliance leaks

Condensate lines, dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerators can cause damage that spreads quickly.

Underpaid water claims

Drying, removal and rebuild work are often left off or priced too low. We go line by line.

Why it matters

Water damage spreads farther than it looks

In Hawaiʻi homes, water often travels under flooring, behind cabinets and into single-wall framing. If moisture readings are skipped or the drying is cut short, damage keeps growing after the adjuster leaves, and mold can follow.

We document moisture, photograph everything before it is removed and check that the estimate includes the drying, removal and rebuild work your home actually needs.

Water damage & mold claims FAQs

Sudden and accidental water damage, like a burst pipe, is often covered. Damage from long-term leaks, wear and tear, or rising flood water is often excluded or needs other coverage. Your policy wording decides, so ask for any denial in writing.
Mold that results from a covered water loss may be covered, but many policies cap mold coverage at a set amount or exclude it in some situations. Act fast, document the source of the water and keep moisture readings and remediation reports.
It depends on where the water came from, your association’s governing documents and both policies. Often the association’s master policy covers parts of the building and your HO-6 covers your interior and belongings. We help sort out which policy responds.
No. Most policies expect you to prevent further damage. Take photos and video first, keep damaged materials or samples when you can, save receipts for drying and repairs, and then start mitigation.
Ask your contractor for an itemized estimate and compare it line by line with the insurer’s estimate. Missed items and low prices can often be submitted as a supplement. We can review both in a complimentary review.
A public adjuster works for you, the policyholder, not the insurance company. We read your policy, document the damage, prepare the claim and handle the back-and-forth with your insurer. Your insurer’s adjuster works for the insurer.
You tell us what happened and send whatever you have: photos, your policy, letters or estimates from the insurer. We explain what we see, what may be missing and what to document next. If we can help, we explain in writing how we are paid before you sign anything. If you do not need us, we say so.
